Ajay,
As I mentioned on my Day 4 update, I landed my first client. The proposal was actually accepted in the wee hours of the morning on Day 5. 1:04 a.m. to be precise.
This was a fairly small project, but should lead to additional work from this client. Since I am just starting my business, I am pretty much taking on any and every project I can get my hands on. The key to this strategy is staying profitable.
You can't give away your work, but you have to build a base of clients and a sales pipeline. It is a delicate balance. We will talk more about this in the future.
This project was priced at $780. My budget for expenses, including paying myself for my time is $585. That will leave me with $195 in profit at a 25% profit margin.
Your profit is so important. It is the fuel for growing your business. If you don't maintain at least a 25% profit margin, your business will NOT grow. This is a simple concept, but many business owners struggle with this. Don't ignore this part of your business.
Get that one thing right and you will be well on your way to success.
Days 5 and 6 were on the weekend so it was a good time to catch up on a few administrative tasks. I set up Waveapps. It is an accounting/invoicing/payment processing app. It is really slick. In just over an hour I had everything set up. It connects to my bank account and credit card so it will automatically track all my income and expenses.

I also managed to make a couple of sales calls and do some marketing. I have two more promising leads. I am realizing more and more how important quick followup is. You can land more deals if you are quick to respond and consistent with your followup.
I am feeling pretty good about my sales pipeline so far.
Now let's take a look at the stats.
